Trick-O-Treating

Considering our world is scared of actually celebrating Halloween ON Halloween...we have had the privilege of Trick-O-Treating in various ways for multiple days now! Wednesday night was our Halloween party at the church which was pretty basic...let the kids play a few games, eat a glorious dinner of chips and hotdogs, then go and walk out in the parking lot from car to car for "Trunk-or-Treat." Trunk-or-Treat is a wonderful invention...it is so much more efficient than walking around a whole neighborhood. Oliver and Everett got enough candy to last them a month in like ten minutes of running from trunk to trunk!
Our next stop on the candy train of Halloween celebrations was Thursday night--when our neighborhood decided to do Trick-o-Treating. Aaron was gone at school, so I took the boys with some neighbors and braved the frigid temperatures to get yet another month's-fill of candy. They were super excited, and it was worth it to see them be so happy to go to each house and say "Trick-or-Treat!" in the cutest voices (especially Everett!). The anticlimatic ending was Oliver wiping out two blocks from our house and spilling all his candy, scraping his hands, and screaming like he was being murdered for like 15 minutes. Yeah, that was pretty predictable...darkness, sugar-filled child, crack in the sidewalk--the combination was not looking good.
And then tonight, because Aaron didn't have the fun of going with us on Thursday, we thought we'd take them to the only neighborhood close to us that was trick-o-treating ON Halloween (it's a crazy idea--I know). The boys had mixed feelings about it. Everett was way excited, but Oliver didn't even want to go. In fact, he insisted that we stay home. But, for Everett's sake, and because we knew he'd like it once he went, we all piled into the car, bundled up like we were trick-o-treating in Alaska. Both boys promptly fell asleep before we got to the neighborhood. This was a ticket to trouble. They get SO cranky if they are woken up from a nap only to be dragged into freezing temperatures and forced to beg for candy door-to-door. (That'd make the best of us cranky). BUT, alas--we had the double stroller and a blanket, and we persevered. Oliver let us put his costume on him...step one in the right direction. Then they slowly, ever so slowly, got up the gumption to go knock on someone's door. It was like pulling teeth to get this process started...and all in the name of trying to have Aaron see how cute they are trick-o-treating! This was how it was, "Oliver why don't you walk up with mommy and see what treats they are giving away?" "NO." "But, Oliver--this is fun! Remember, how much fun you had the other night?" "NO. I don't like trick-or-treating." "Okay, then...Everett--why don't you go up with Daddy?" "NOOOOOOO..." It was rather hilarious how completely unenthusiastic they were. Then all of a sudden, Oliver saw something on someone's front porch that caught his interest--and off he went. He was good to go from then on, but Everett only got out of the stroller a few token times. It was quite funny...oh how stubborn our children can be! I can't possibly imagine where they get that from...
And so ends our Halloween week of candy and fun! Thank goodness its only once a year! I think I'll go see what we got...after all, it's really for the baby anyhow.

I love it! "It's all candy for the baby anyway." That's awesome. I am trying to stay away from Target today and their candy on clearance...hopefully Josh doesn't remember when he gets home from work and think we need to go there for FHE. =) Cause I will definitely break down. Too bad the kids were trick-or-treated out by the actual Halloween.
